The Rifken Group, Ltd.
Marty Rifken, founder and president, began his real estate career in 1965. He opened his own firm in 1968, first representing buyers and sellers of residential income property investments, and later developing new multi-unit residential complexes. In the 70's and 80's, The Rifken Group's business was expanded to include key renovation and development of commercial properties (office, retail and industrial), along with leasing, property management and consulting services.
During the 1980's, when many developers took flight to Madison's periphery where land was cheaper and more prevalent, and when society had turned to "malls" for shopping, Marty Rifken concentrated on revitalization of dowtown Madison. The Rifken Group purchased deteriorating vacant 19th Century buildings and, through project vision and creative financing, resurrected them into vibrant retail and office spaces for the 20th Century. City, county and building preservation groups acknowledged the company's effort with awards for the historic preservations. The Governor appointed Rifken to the Historic Building code Council, Downtown Madison Inc. elected Rifken president of their central city group, and the Mayor asked him to serve on the Madison Landmarks Commission.
The Rifken Group continues its commitment to historic preservation and continues involvement in the total renovation and development processes from feasibility analysis and market research, to representation before governmental review panels, to architectural and construction planning, to financing and, finally, leasing providing services to seller, buyer, tenant and landlord.
